Swissôtel Quito, part of H.O.V Hotelera Quito S.A., a leading hotel company in the region and a brand within the Accor Group portfolio, is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its commitment to environmental sustainability: the attainment of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory Neutrality Verification Statement. This achievement reflects the hotel's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices in Ecuador.
The greenhouse gas emissions inventory covers the period from January to December 2022. During this time, the company took steps to measure, reduce, and offset its carbon emissions. Swissôtel Quito contributed to carbon reduction by funding a project to lower carbon emissions by the magnitude of its impact (Scope 1 and 2), specifically 2,400.51 tCO2e in 2022.
This milestone was achieved through the purchase and retirement of 2,401 Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) corresponding to Project Reference: VC29456/2023, related to the Hazira Combined Cycle Gas Project of 155 MW.
The verification process and issuance of the Greenhouse Gas Inventory Neutrality Verification Statement were conducted by SGS Ecuador, a leading environmental certification and verification organization. The statement number for this achievement is EC23/000000112.
This accomplishment marks an important step in Swissôtel Quito and H.O.V Hotelera Quito S.A.'s journey toward environmental sustainability and reflects their ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions, conserving the environment, and promoting responsible practices within the industry. H.O.V Hotelera Quito S.A. also manages ibis Styles Guayaquil, which was inaugurated this year.

Each hotel room also features a special card that reads: "We Care About Sustainability." This card invites guests to make a conscious choice and offers the option to place it on their bed in the morning if they wish to keep their bedding unchanged, as a sustainable gesture to reduce natural resource consumption and minimize waste.
Swissôtel Quito – A Sustainable Hotel
As part of its sustainability measures, Swissôtel Quito has adopted the use of eco-friendly wooden key cards for room access, replacing PVC cards and thereby reducing carbon emissions. While a PVC card emits 0.061 kg CO₂, an eco-friendly wooden card emits no carbon (0 kg CO₂).
